FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On Thursday, April 3, 2008 Main Street Waterbury will present its fourth annual edible art competition, Eat Your Art Out. Over 20 chefs will be vying for “The Best of the Best” awards in three traditional categories of Flavor, Presentation and Artistic Theme, and of course, the ever popular People’s Choice award. New to this year’s contest is the Brass Chef Trophy for “Best of Show”.

In past years, crowds as large as 500 people have attended this signature “foodie” event. They enjoyed the visual treats and sampled mouthwatering recipes of highly talented area chefs. The rules of competition call for each chef to select a theme and then prepare a deliciously edible creation, a treat for the eye as well as the palate. In past years entrants have designed their edible art using quail and chicken dishes, fancifully shaped cookies and cakes, carved vegetables and fruits, bread sculptures, pastillage and molded chocolate. They’ve fashioned full depictions of the Waterbury Green and other Downtown landmarks, logos of Broadway shows, Hollywood paraphernalia, Van Gough still life painting, underwater mermaid, fragile mobile of life-like fish and many other remarkable things.

Our elite team of judges from 2007, who are returning this year, include: the judging chair, Chef Jerry Reveron of The Woodward House in Bethlehem, who was just selected as the 2007 Restaurateur of the Year by the Connecticut Restaurant Association; Chef Chris Eddy from Litchfield Hills’ Winvian resort; Chef Noel Jones from ON20 (formerly the Polytechnic Club) in Hartford; Chef Lynn Mansel from Mohegan Sun Resort and Casino in Uncasville; and joining this year’s team is Waterbury’s own Maria Sanchez, Chef Innovator from Sweet Maria’s Bakery.

Former winners have included: The Woodward House of Bethlehem, New Morning Natural and Organic Foods of Woodbury, Jordan Caterers of Cheshire, Sweet Maria's Bakery of Waterbury, Ana Parzych Custom Cakes of Cheshire, Circa Bistro of Waterbury, The Center for Culinary Arts of Cromwell, Black Rock Tavern of Thomaston, Comfort Kitchen Caterers of Prospect, and La Cazuela of Waterbury.

Eat Your Art Out is a fundraiser for Main Street Waterbury, a 501 C3 organization dedicated to revitalizing Downtown Waterbury and in so doing influencing economic development in the greater region. But beyond that, Eat Your Art Out has become a unique, signature event that is a whole lot of fun. The evening provides attendees with an introduction to many of the area’s remarkably talented chefs and their restaurants, reacquaints people with an inviting Downtown Waterbury, and brings together the region’s greatest asset – the people.

In addition to the bounty of tastings from this food art extravaganza, there will be samplings of artisinal wine and beers from around the world, a silent auction of art and memorabilia, music to please your ears, and more. Ticket prices are $40 prior to the event, and $45 at the door. For more information call Main Street Waterbury at (203) 757-0701, ext. 302, or visit the website www.eatyourartout.org.
